Homi Adajania's ‘Angrezi Medium’ touches a confluence of semi urban and modern, old and young, generational and traditional tussle between expectations and reality of a father , his daughter and her dreams.
Irrfan Khan , portrays Champak Ghastiram, the owner of a Lonely Planet named destination sweet meat shop ,who is a doting father to his teenage daughter. The protective father is disappointed to see his daughter’s desire to go to the UK for further education and being as protective as a father can be accompanies her. The movie is a roller coaster delight. Full of human poignancy which leave the audience oscillating between tears of happiness and sorrow, almost all at once. The casting couldn’t have been more appropriate .The chemistry between Dimple Kapadia and Kareena kapoor is charged as they portray an estranged mother- daughter duo . Deepak Dobriyal, Radhika Madan and Ranvir Shorey excel in their character portrayal.
We are reviewing this movie 2 days after the loss of life of Irrfan Khan, the brilliant actor in this movie. Death has many faces. But it has only one truth. It represents an irrevocable loss of value. The death of an incandescent artiste like Irrfan, at an age much too young for our era, is a tragic loss.
But what we mourn, is the void that Irrfan has left of his brilliant genius. The magnitude of his achievements, his dedication and humility makes us wonder what other possibilities might have been.
We will always miss his prodigy. The smiles he bought to our faces and the tears he made us cry. Thank you for the moments @irrfan
